"Wow this skateboarding thing is pretty fun...."

Just another day in the life....

We had a busy day for a Saturday. At 8am this morning Ethan decided that he wanted to go back to the skate park...
  • I was more than excited to take him back. Needless to say that was a good thing because at the 9am session, Ethan mastered riding up the quarter-pipe. A big deal for a 7yr old. I had been giving him some instruction but it wasn't until he heard it from another one of his skater buddies, who was pulling some pretty cool tricks, did he start to listen. The buddies name is Jeff and Jeff is about 37 yrs old, 6'5' 245....a pretty menacing specimen of a guy when he's coming at you on a skateboard. As Jeff affirmed Ethan's skill level and technique he dropped in one suggestion, and that was all it took. Ethan took Jeff's suggestion to heart and after about 5 attempts he pulled it off. Upon his success, Ethan looked over at me to make sure i was watching...I was, I gave him the universal sign of approval, index finger up and pinkie up(both hands). As he smiled and acknowledged my approval he skated back down the quarter pipe towards Jeff, who was watching back from the starting point. Jeff affirmed Ethan with a High five to which Ethan was more than ready to reciprocate. Things got even better when Scott and Noah(4yrs) showed up. Scott has been working with Noah and it is amazing. As a four year old Noah sticks to that board like his feet are glued on, even when he should be jumping off, he won't, that kid is fearless. Following Scott and Noahs lead, Ethan and I jumped into the deep pool(9ft) and started to work on Ethan's fakies and compression so he can get his speed up. Ethan did great getting up that pool wall. Things went so well that Ethan asked to go back at 4pm. So, we returned to the park for another hour and a half session. (4hrs total for the day)-(6hrs in two days).

  • Upon leaving the house today(9am) with Ethan, I asked Reid if he wanted to go. "No, I'm gonna help mom wash the car and earn some money." He's already a good capitalist. See, like all good boys, Reid went to go by his friend a birthday present and was so taken by the present he decided that he better earn some money and go buy himself one too. You know you bought a good gift when you ask your mom, "Mom, can i keep it?" So after helping mom wash the car and vacuum the house for a crisp Lincoln...Afterwards, Reid and Stacy rode over to the skate park on their bikes to watch Ethan shred. Later in the afternoon Reid dumped the new prize into a gift bag and headed off to the birthday party, bowling, jacuzzi and sleepover at Ben's house. Of course Cole is going to be there so the three musketeers are together again, 5 times this week at school was not enough, it had to be six.
  • Since Reid went to the party, Ethan and I headed back to the skate park, dinner at In-and-Out then off to the season opener of the world famous Costa Mesa Speedway (http://www.costamesaspeedway.net/ ). Nothing says father son bonding like greasy hamburgers and the smell of burning methanol from a single speed zero to sixty in 2.0 second on motorcycle that doesn't have brakes...that's right coast to a stop!! Every father son duo should check this out at least once

Today I sat at Cosi and had some lunch working on this blog before we went and saw a movie. Decent movie, great company. Of course we didn't talk much but just being in seats at the same movie was good enough. Once we finished the movie the boys were out of school so we went to to the Volcom Skate Park. Ethan was on it, he wouldn't leave. Reid on the other hand went home early with mom. I think i will go finish my sushi and get ready to watch the first Indiana Jones wiht the boys......until next time
